Before Dostykstan's independence, what is now Dostyk City was a closed off residential area for expat workers.

In early 2022 the founders of Dostykstan, often referred to as the "Carvieniel Council", began discussing independence. Within these discussions multiple justifications for independence were brought up. These points included the ethnic diversity and uniqueness from the rest of Central Asia, the already existing border checkpoints, an established school system, and multiple others.

With all these points gathered, on the 18th of February 2023, the Republic of Dostykstan Declared its independence as a majority

self-reliant nation in Central Asia.​
